Leigh-Ann Brunke, RP, MC

Specializing in treatment for trauma and PTSD through EMDR and Parts work

I am a trauma specialist and if you notice irritability, anger and nightmares taking control of your mood, relationships and passions, I can help. What if you could live in your body without overwhelm, with the memories of the past still present but no longer sabotaging your day. I can support you to overcome the heavy burden of trauma while making room for hope. I specialize in supporting First Responders and individuals and treat PTSD as a stress injury and not a disorder. I will help you navigate the complex past and lived memories with the goal of remembering these past scenes but in a way that they will no longer impact you.

Clients report that EMDR feels different from other models and often share that the soothing protocols are relaxing and that when recalling trauma, it does not register as pain in their body anymore once their trauma is reprocessed. The somatic work aims to remove the overwhelming emotions and physical sensations that often make daily living challenging.

I have 20 years of experience in the field and am passionate about supporting you and providing you will tools and skills for Post Traumatic Growth. Your sessions will be tailored to you with a collaborative approach to foster a therapeutic alliance.

EMDR

EMDR

EMDR involves several stages using bilateral stimulation that helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories, which can reduce its emotional impact and lead to new, more positive beliefs about the event. EMDR is a structured, 8 phase approach that begins with stabilization and coping strategies prior to moving onto reprocessing past trauma. EMDR is a evidence based treatment that is internationally recognized for treating symptoms of trauma, including PTSD. Research suggests that EMDR can sometimes help people heal faster than traditional therapies, such as talk therapy.

Leigh-Ann will welcome you to counselling and the parameters of this work will be reviewed as well as a through intake and assessment of your file and the discussion of goals will be reviewed.  Tools and strategies may be reviewed in session as well as next steps for the client.

What will each session look like? What if I want EMDR or talk therapy?

Each session will provide the client an opportunity to decide on how to best use the time that supports them.  EMDR is always available to clients and the session will focus on what best supports the client in that session, whether EMDR, mindfulness, CBT or talk therapy.

How do I pay for sessions?

The client may use cash or e-transfer for their sessions which are due at the end of the session.

How many sessions do I need?

This can be decided by your clinician and yourself as there is no set determined frequency and schedule for counselling.  However, your clinician will advise if a weekly session is advised as based on your current health and safety and/or if you are in crises.
